It’s hard to believe that summer is already halfway over! I’ve been spending my time working on my grad school courses, catching up on TV, and exploring my new Big Ideas resources.
Earlier this month, I met with the 8th grade math team for our summer work days. It’s clear we are all passionate about our students’ learning and are excited to work together this year! We all have different strengths we bring to the table that makes for a well-rounded group of teachers. We accomplished so much in just the few times we have met, and I cannot wait to see what’s to come 🙂
Although I am going in to my third year of teaching, I’m always yearning to learn more and to take on a leadership position of some sort. This past year I had my first taste of leadership at school with my soccer coaching position. I am so grateful for the opportunity to coach the sport that meant so much to me growing up: from when I started playing at 5 years old all the way to college intramurals. I am excited for this year to work with the new and returning athletes from the team.
Coaching soccer ignited my passion for leading others and encouraged me to apply for leadership conferences and opportunities. I faced rejection, and it was a hard pill to swallow. But it was also a learning experience. They say “when one door closes, another door opens,” and I couldn’t agree more…
I am proud to share that I have been selected as a Khan Academy Ambassador this the next school year! Khan Academy holds a special place in my heart. When my counterpart and I shifted our teaching style last year to the blended learning/workshop model, Khan Academy became a staple ingredient on our task cards. Khan’s Google Classroom integration made it as simple as could be. I am excited to share my knowledge and resources of Khan with the fellow Ambassadors and to learn new ideas from them. I had my first webinar with the Khan Ambassadors today and am even more ready than before to be back in session…….after my vacation 🙂
I am very thankful for this opportunity and am looking forward to connecting with teachers and other Khan Ambassadors in-person and through #MTBoS.
